On an apparatus loss, do not have the truck moved or repaired before McNeil has seen it. Apparatus is insured on an agreed value basis and the adjusters know what these vehicles cost to put right.
About McNeil & Co.
McNeil is a program administrator rather than an insurance company, and it does not compete in the general market at all. It builds coverage for a short list of industries most agencies never touch, then runs the underwriting, the loss control, and the claims for those programs itself. That is why the name is unfamiliar even to people who know every carrier on a standard quote sheet.
The program we use is ESIP, the Emergency Services Insurance Program, which McNeil has run since 1989 for volunteer and career fire departments, rescue squads, ambulance services, and fire districts. It bundles the things a department actually owns and faces: buildings and contents at guaranteed replacement cost, general liability written for fire and rescue work, apparatus insured on an agreed value basis, portable equipment carried off premises, crime, umbrella, and accident and sickness benefits for members.
Where McNeil & Co. tends to fit
McNeil fits emergency service organizations and little else: a volunteer fire department, a rescue squad, an ambulance service, a fire district. Apparatus, member coverage, and fire and rescue liability are not things a standard commercial policy handles well, which is the reason this program exists. If your situation is more complicated, we represent companies that specialize in it. Either way, we quote across everyone we write with before recommending anything.
