Saving Money on RV Insurance: Discounts You Might Be Missing

RV insurance doesn't have to break the bank. Here are the discounts available — some you'd expect, and some that might surprise you.

RV insurance costs more than auto insurance — there's no getting around that. You're insuring a larger, more expensive vehicle with specialized coverage. But that doesn't mean you should be overpaying.

Both of our RV insurance programs offer a range of discounts, and most RV owners we talk to qualify for several they had no idea existed.

Discounts Available Across Both Programs

These discounts are offered by both of our RV carriers:

Multi-Policy Discount — Have other policies with the same carrier? You'll save on your RV coverage. This is often the single largest discount available.

Paid in Full Discount — Pay your annual premium in one lump sum instead of monthly installments and you'll save.

Original Owner Discount — If you're the first titled owner of your RV, you may qualify for a discount. This reflects lower risk associated with owners who've maintained the vehicle from day one.

Responsible Driver Discount — No driving record surcharges on your policy? You'll likely see this discount applied.

Claim Free Renewal Discount — Renewed your policy with no claims in the prior period? That's rewarded with a lower rate.

Advance Quote Discount — Get your quote before your policy effective date rather than at the last minute.

Homeowner Discount — If you or your spouse owns a home, manufactured home, or condo, you may qualify — even if it's insured elsewhere.

EFT / Prompt Payment Discount — Pay by electronic funds transfer or consistently pay on time.

Prior Insurance / Transfer Discount — Had continuous RV coverage with another carrier? Bringing that history over can earn you a discount.

Credit-Based Insurance Scoring — Both programs use credit information as a rating factor. A strong credit history generally means lower premiums.

Discounts Unique to One Program

These are available through one of our two RV programs — and a few of them are pretty significant:

Accident Forgiveness — After 48 continuous months with no chargeable at-fault accidents (and none in the prior 35 months), your first at-fault accident won't trigger a surcharge at renewal. Included at no extra cost.

Small Claim Forgiveness — All claims with a total payout of $500 or less are waived at renewal. There's no limit on the number of small claims forgiven. Also included at no extra cost.

Association / Membership Discount — Members of certain organizations or affinity groups may qualify for additional savings.

Military Discount — Active duty or veteran status can earn a discount.

Safety Course Discount — Completed an approved RV safety course within the last 36 months? You get a discount for it. Several organizations offer these courses, and honestly they're worth taking even without the discount.

Senior Safety Course Discount — A separate discount for completing an age-appropriate defensive driving or safety course.

GPS / Telematics Discount — Using a mobile app or GPS tracking device? Some programs offer discounts for drivers willing to share usage data.

Green Vehicle Discount — Driving an electric RV? Yes, they exist — and yes, there's a discount. (Not applicable to travel trailers.)

Trust & Safety Score — One program uses a proprietary algorithm combining public data with vehicle information to assess risk. A favorable score means a lower rate.

Rent & Save Discount — If you rent your RV through a peer-to-peer platform, you may qualify for a discount starting in your second policy year based on prior year rental activity.

Important note about peer-to-peer rentals: The discount is based on rental activity, but your RV policy does NOT cover the RV during rental periods. You'll need to verify that the rental platform provides adequate coverage while someone else is using your RV.

Online Quote / Automatic Card Payment Discounts — Additional small savings for quoting online or setting up automatic credit card payments.

How to Maximize Your Savings

Bundle where possible. The multi-policy discount is usually the biggest single discount. If you can keep your RV, auto, and home with the same carrier family, the savings add up.

Take a safety course. The discount pays for the course many times over, and you'll learn things about RV handling that could prevent an accident.

Maintain a clean record. Responsible driver discounts, claim-free renewal discounts, and accident forgiveness all reward safe, careful RV ownership.

Pay in full or by EFT. If your budget allows, paying annually instead of monthly saves more than you might expect.

Ask us about every discount. Some discounts aren't applied automatically — they have to be requested or verified. We check every one when we quote your policy, but it helps if you mention things like military service, safety courses, association memberships, or home ownership upfront.

A Word About Surcharges

While we're talking about what affects your premium, here are the factors that can increase it:

  • Driving record issues (accidents or violations in the prior 35 months)
  • Foreign or unverifiable driver's license
  • Comprehensive claims over $1,000 in the prior 35 months
  • Missing or incomplete vehicle photos (one program)

The best way to keep your premium low? Drive safely, file claims only when necessary, and keep your policy information current.

You're Probably Leaving Money on the Table

Between our two RV programs, there are over 20 potential discounts. Most of the RV owners we talk to qualify for several they didn't even know about. Some of these get applied automatically, but others only kick in if you ask — or if your agent knows to check.

Bring us your current RV policy. We'll run it through both programs, stack every discount you qualify for, and show you what the numbers look like. No pressure, no obligation. You might be surprised.
