Your Agent Ghosted You? Here's Why

Local agencies across the valley are getting bought out and closing their doors. Here's what that means for you — and what we're doing about it.

If your insurance agent's office recently went dark, you're not alone.

Over the past couple of years, several independent agencies in Point Pleasant and the Elkins area have been bought out by large regional firms. The signs come down, the local staff leaves, and suddenly the person who knew your name and your policy is gone. You're handed a 1-800 number and told nothing will change.

Everything changes.

What Happens When Your Agency Gets Bought

The new company doesn't know you. They didn't write your policy. They don't know that you added a garage last year, or that your kid just got their license, or that your rental property has a different deductible than your primary home.

You call with a question and you're routed to a call center. You file a claim and explain your situation to three different people. Nobody is keeping track of the full picture.

This isn't a knock on the people who sold their agencies — that's their business decision. But it leaves a gap, and the people left holding the bag are the policyholders.

Why This Keeps Happening

Big firms buy local agencies because it's cheaper than building a client base from scratch. They get your book of business overnight. The math works great for them.

It doesn't always work great for you. Service goes from personal to transactional. Local knowledge disappears. And if you need to sit across a desk from someone to talk through your options, there's no desk to sit at anymore.

We're Not Going Anywhere

Parrack Insurance has been here since 1976, when Jon Parrack Sr. opened the doors. Ryan bought the agency from his father. Jay — Jon W. Parrack III — is the third generation, 36 years old, and plans to retire right here doing this. He's in the process of taking over the agency.

Same family. Same faces. Same love for our communities. Three generations deep and not slowing down.

That's not something a regional conglomerate can put on a brochure.

If your agency just got bought out and you're wondering what your options are — or if you just want to make sure your coverage didn't get lost in the shuffle — give us a call. We'll review what you've got and make sure you're taken care of.
