About Farmers & Mechanics
Farmers & Mechanics is a West Virginia mutual insurance company based in Martinsburg. It was chartered in 1877 and issued its first policy in March 1878, which makes it the oldest domestic mutual fire insurance company in the state. It writes home, farm, mobile home, dwelling fire, business, and auto coverage, almost entirely in West Virginia, and holds an A (Excellent) rating from AM Best.
Farmers & Mechanics works only through independent agents. Their own website says it plainly: policy questions, payment questions, and changes go through your agent, not the company.
